Voices of Carneros: Alison Crowe, Garnet Vineyards

The Carneros region is as authentic as those who live and work here. The Carneros Wine Alliance has created “The Voices of Carneros” to allow locals to share their insight and knowledge of Carneros, including secret spots in the region. “The Voices of Carneros” is published regularly on the alliance website and across all social media outlets.

Name:

Alison Crowe, Garnet Vineyards

Root:

Winemaker and Partner at Garnet Vineyards. My partners own Stanly Ranch and other vineyards in both the Napa and Sonoma sides of the Carneros appellation. We sell grapes to many fabulous wineries in addition to growing our own fruit for Garnet Vineyards.

My Carneros:

Unassuming and down-to-earth, Carneros quietly gets under your skin. I’ve been coming to this area since I was a college student at UC Davis in the late 1990’s. Now as a winemaker, I couldn’t be more thrilled to craft wines from Stanly Ranch and other wonderful vineyard properties in the appellation. Carneros is a daily part of my life all year round. I live in downtown Napa, make wine in both Sonoma and Napa Counties and spend a lot of time enjoying walks and bike rides in Carneros with my family. The quality of light here makes it a magical spot any time of the year.

Fun Fact:

I published The WineMaker’s Answer Book in 2007 and started a blog at www.garnetvineyards.com

Secret Spot:

View of San Pablo Bay, and on a clear day, San Francisco, from the top of Diamond Ranch, our Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vineyard where Hwy 121 and Napa Road meet. That and the bar at Boon Fly Café, having a glass of Domaine Carneros bubbles with their wild arugula salad.
