The Carneros Experience - Spring On-Line Auction for Moms, Dads and College Grads

The Carneros Experience

For ten days only from April 25 through May 4, the Carneros Wine Alliance will host its second annual On-Line Auction offering Special Gifts for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and College Graduation.

The On-Line Auction can be accessed through:

With gifts packaged to be shared by families and friends, the auction lots include those by Cuvaison, Merryvale, Patz & Hall and ZD Wines, and offer specially designed tastings and tours with Carneros winemakers.  The On-Line Auction offers four special mixed lots of Carneros magnums.
Among the featured lots are:

  • Bicycling the backroads of Carneros for six; led by Clos Du Val Winemaker John Clews, followed by a sumptuous lunch and wines;
  • A Sparkle-licious Party for 10 at Domaine Carneros with tasting following a private tour at the famous Carneros chateau;
  • A Vineyard Safari for four through the backroads, rolling hills and marshlands of Carneros hosted by Bouchaine Vineyards.
  • Three nights for two couples (4 people) at the Saintsbury Guest House, including a private tour and tasting at the winery and a mixed case of Saintsbury wine to take home.

Beneficiary is the Carneros Land Stewardship Foundation (www.carneroslandstewardship.org).

The Carneros Volunteer Fire Department will be organizing this annual fund raiser with proceeds funding the new Carneros Fire Station. Artesa Winery is the main sponsor along with being the starting and finishing location of this 5K and 10K race. The winery will open early on this day and all runners receive a special discount. Carneros Heritage Fest - Saturday May 30TH

Mark your calendars for the 4th Annual Carneros Heritage Fest: Wines, Vines, Woolies and Wetlands – the region’s signature celebration on May 30, 2009.

Hosted by the Carneros Wine Alliance, the Fest is one of the nation’s only family-friendly wine and food festivals. Proceeds of the Fest benefit the Carneros Land Stewardship Foundation dedicated to the conservation and preservation of habitat and wetlands in the San Pablo Bay adjacent to the Carneros region.

Highlights of the 4th Annual Carneros Heritage Fest include:

  • Carneros Premium and Ultra-Premium wines paired with a Carneros-style Lamb BBQ under the direction of Brandon Guenther, chef/owner of Rocker Oysterfeller’s Kitchen and Saloon, Valley Ford, Sonoma County, CA.
  • Napa v. Sonoma ThrowDown! Featuring emerging chefs pitted against each other in a lamb cook-off with Carneros wine pairings.
  • Sheepherding, Falconry, Music, Entertainment, Vineyard Tours.
  • Environmental and sustainable agriculture, wildlife and ecology exhibits, featuring beekeepers, reptiles, worms, insects and a showcase of “BabyDoll” miniature sheep.
  • Special activities for families include a hay maze and kite-flying in the renowned Carneros wind.
  • Artisan cheese, olive oil and honey producers.
  • World famous Carneros grape growers showcasing how a great vine becomes a great wine including a special exhibit on growing grapes from seedlings.

Where: The Donum Estate, 24520 Ramal Road in Sonoma, just off Rt. 121, 40 miles north of San Francisco, 30 miles from Marin County, the East Bay and 60 minutes from Sacramento and the South Bay.

The event partners the Carneros Wine Alliance with the Sonoma County Winegrape Commission which will co-sponsor a Winegrape Growers Pavilion, the American Lamb Board, the Napa County Farm Bureau and the California Department of Fish and Game.

Carneros Heritage Fest - Friday May 29th “Next Generation” Winemaker Dinner

Eight "Next Generation" Carneros winemakers will kick-off the 4th Annual Carneros Heritage Fest by hosting eight tables at a special all-lamb, multi-course dinner — for only 80 guests — on May 29. The event will pair the wines of the featured winemakers with sumptuous cuisine created and prepared by Executive Chef Janine Falvo of the Lodge at Sonoma. The dinner, to take place under the stars at the hotel’s Firepit Patio, marks the launch of the Carneros appellation's annual celebration of its history and namesake ("Carneros" means "the Ram" in Spanish). The all-day outdoor Carneros Heritage Fest follows the dinner on Saturday, May 30.

Featured winemakers include Michael Terrien, Kazmer & Blaise; Jeff Stewart, Buena Vista Carneros; Steve Rogstad, Cuvaison Estate Wines; John Clews, Clos Du Val; Anne Moller-Racke, The Donum Estate; Jerome Chery, Saintsbury; and T.J. Evans, Domaine Carneros.


Chef Falvo’s five-course dinner will feature a bounty of spring produce together with the flavors of artisan lamb raised by Sonoma County rancher Bruce Cambell (CK Lamb), and will include: Warm Lamb Tongue’s Salad, Heirloom Tomatoes and Truffled-Balsamic Vinaigrette; Braised Lamb Shank, Roasted Spring Onion Risotto; Smoked Lamb Chops, Pastitsio and Arugula; Cheese course featuring Bellwether Farms San Andrea’s Sheep’s Milk; and a special sweet lamb dessert featuring Pistachio Custard, Shredded Phyllo and Local Honey Ice Cream. The dinner will include a reception of passed hors d’oeurves and sparkling wines, along with wines personally selected by the eight winemakers.
